Music Mania Summer Camp at G Minor Studios, Buford

Early Registration Camp Cost is ONLY $80

The time is approaching again for our Music Mania Camp. What a great time we had last year as the children enjoyed each other and the music! Our kids’ band did an awesome job performing High School Musical and Camp Rock songs.

The younger kids really enjoyed the introduction to new instruments. As a result of camp, we had several students to sign up for lessons!! What an amazing sight to see a child smile with an instrument in their hands.

This year we are adding more of the wind wood instruments. We will offer piano, vocal, guitar, drums, all stringed instruments, sax, trumpet....and more...

There will only be one choice for selecting their instruments this year. Because we are incorporating acting, and dancing as well. We could not leave out dancing this year, as our theme is MJ....Music by a King! How can you not dance with MJ's music?

We are giving a big discount this week and next week to early camp registrars...Our price for one week is $125, which includes lunch. The camp hours will be 10AM - 3PM. We will allow early drop off and late pick-up at your request...for $20 more per week. We will have early drop off as early as 8AM, and late pick-up as late as 6 PM.

Early Registration discount will save you a whopping $45 dollars, but will ONLY last for two weeks. We are also offering multiple student discounts. If you register during early registration, you can save an additional $20 on the second child...and you can pay the same amount for the week of July 11 - 15. (BUT, you will not be required to make that payment at this time) This only secures the cost of the 2nd session enrollment.

Registration is $35 for non G Minor students. G Minor students pay NO registration fee.

We will have games, arts and crafts, theme days, and dancing (one of MJ's videos)! Introduction to instruments, and also a band for the older mature kids involved!....acting as well! A full Arts week! :):)

Theme Days:

Monday - Pirate Day

Tuesday - Pajama day

Wed. - Tacky Day

Thurs. - Halloween (Kids get another chance to wear their costumes)

Fri. - Beach Day (Water Activities)

Camp Dates: June 26 - Jul 1 AND July 11 - July 15 (Register for one or BOTH weeks)

Ages: 4 - 14

Please call our office for details, we will be happy to answer all your questions, and enroll your child(ren). 678 765 - 8080

We are excited about camp, as well as your participation to make this year a success!

Please help us by spreading the camp information to other families. We really appreciate your support! If one of those families enrolls we will wave your $35 Registration fee! Or give you an additional 10% discount, if you don't have to pay registration.

We appreciate your support, and the opportunity to serve you and your family.

We will also add a camp for older kids this year. Ages 14 - 18. This will be a singers and songwriters camp. Information TBA along with dates. Please feel free to ask us about the details. This will be a great opportunity for kids with award winning talent!

Piano Teacher Gwinnett, Her Place of Yours, All Ages

The following note is from Susan Cokely, and Piano Teacher in the Gwinnett County Area.  If you contact her, be sure to mention that you found out about her on this blog.

My name is Susan Cokely.  My family and I are new to Atlanta and we are living in Duluth.  I began singing and playing the piano at the age of 7.  I received a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Azusa Pacific University in 1987.  Upon graduation I used my gifts and talents in the church.  I began singing and playing piano for choirs and "praise" teams and also directed children's choirs.  I have also had the opportunity to work with Middle and High School students.

Upon the birth of our first child, I began teaching piano and immediately realized my love for teaching.  That was 18 years ago and I have been teaching all ages and levels ever since.  I absolutely love teaching  and know that it is what I'm called to do.  I delight not only in teaching the basic fundamentals of piano and exposing my students to all kinds of music, but most importantly I love watching them develop a love for music.

If you are interested please email me at susancokely@yahoo.com.  I teach not only in my home but am willing to come to yours.  I look forward to hearing from you!!

Music Lessons in Sugar Hill/ Gwinnett County

Music by Patti has moved to Sugar Hill (1400 Buford Highway, Magnolia Office Park, Suite K-7, Sugar Hill, GA  30518).  Music by Patti is only approximately 4 miles from our former location in Suwanee.

I offer private and group lessons in piano and voice.  Private lessons can be expensive, especially with multiple children in homeschool families...so group lessons may be a less expensive, but very effective alternative.  I can teach up to six students in a group for piano and up to twelve students in a group for voice.

If there is enough interest in this new area, I will continue Homeschool Choir/Musical Theatre groups and preschool music classes.

I have award-winning students from the local to the national levels.  My base instruction is classical music, but I teach all styles and genres.

I am a nationally certified teacher by the Piano Guild of the American College of Musicians, and I am in the Piano Teachers Hall of Fame.  I belong to most major music teaching professional organizations including  Music Teachers National Association, Georgia Music Teachers Association, Gwinnett County Music Teachers Association, Northeast Georgia Music Teachers Association, Music Educations National Conference, Georgia Music Educators Association, National Guild of Piano Teachers, National Federation of Music Clubs, Georgia Federation of Music Clubs, and Buford-Suwanee Music Club.  I hold offices/positions in most of these.

My students consistently receive top talent ratings in the Piano Guild Auditions and  Superior and Superior Plus ratings in Federation Festival.  They sing and play keyboard/piano in praise bands at church, go to All-State Chorus, accompany chorus/choirs/instrumentalists at school, win talent shows and competitions, star in musical theatre performances at their schools/in their communities, and excel in musical activities in general.  Many of them have won full college scholarships and majored in music in college.

Contact Patti at musicbypatti@charter.net for more information.  I'd love to hear from you via email!  (Since I teach most of the time, it is hard to return phone calls, so email is the best way of communication).

Afterschool times are filled, but some times are available before 3:00 p.m.

Visit my new Music by Patti Facebook and check out some of the information I've posted so far.  Be sure to check out the photos for our Summer Camps 2010 and some of our past musical theatre productions!

Biography:
Grace Buford a professional performing singer/songwriter currently residing in the southern Gwinnett County area of Grayson, GA. She has been actively teaching guitar and piano for 4 years most recently adding vocal instruction to her repetoire. She has released three albums under her own name all available on iTunes with one hard copy CD available at CDBaby.com or at her live performances. Her desire is to give students a basic knowledge of their instrument, music theory, music appreciation, listening to music with a more discerning ear, and tap into the students desire to make music of their own. She does not believe in pushing a student to move at her pace, but rather to work with the student at their own pace and does her best to find methods that help the student learn without stress and fully grasp musical concepts.
She started taking piano lessons at the tender age of 4 years old and performed at various piano competitions throughout her years. She has performed in church worship teams in Gwinnett County, traveled overseas with worship teams as a part of Global Missions, and led worship for time at Gwinnett Community Church. She started a youth praise team and led courses on using your art as worship whether it be musical or visual art. This developed her desire to work with students on an individual basis, so they could "find their own voice" in the music field of their choice whether it be performance or simply for their own personal enjoyment and life enrichment.

She has been performing in the regional southeast at festivals, benefits, and venues since 2005 and at nationwide conferences, art galleries, and events since 2006. Her music has sold worldwide with a strong fanbase in New England, San Francisco, and the UK. She performs online from the comfort of her home when not teaching or traveling and because of this use of new media and the internet to market her music she has appeared on MTV's True Life as a mentor to a young 20-something songwriter in San Francisco, was written up in the Indie Music Section of Billboard Magazine in Jan 2008 and was even featured on CNN in April 2009.
Currently, she teaches out of Gwinnett School of Music on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday nights in addition to her private in-home instruction.

Contact:
If you'd be interested in private in-home instruction for your student please contact Grace Buford at gfolkymusic@gmail.com .
If you'd like to register with Gwinnett School of Music in Grayson & request Grace as your childs instructor for Mon, Wed, or Thurs early afternoon lessons, please call: 770-962-4001 (office hours are Mon-Fri 1pm-8pm)

Grace Notes Conservatory

(from email list)

Announcing the launch of Grace Notes Homeschool Conservatory on May 5th!Joyful Noise Homeschool Band in Cobb County is thrilled to announce the launch of its former satellite program, Joyful Noise Homeschool Band Northeast (JNNE), into independence! JNNE is in the process of becoming an independent program called Grace Notes Homeschool Conservatory, in Lilburn. You can find more information about them at their website. We are excited to announce our second band "planting' in the last two years. The first of our satellite programs to go independent was formerly known as Joyful Noise North in Pickens County, but is now known as North Georgia Homeschool Band. They are growing and thriving! Grace Notes will do the same. We will continue to encourage and support this wonderful homeschool opportunity in the Gwinnett County area. Currently JNNE/Grace Notes has beginner and intermediate/advanced bands, and Marching Band, as well as recorder and chorus classes. New and exciting news for next year includes the possible addition of an Advanced Band class as well as Beginner and Intermediate String Orchestra Classes. (There is also the possibility of an Advanced Strings class, given sufficient demand.) Please register early as classes will be closed as they fill. We are equally thrilled to announce Lachlan McBane as the director for the new Grace Notes Homeschool Conservatory Orchestra. Lachlan McBane has been a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra viola section since 1998, serving as Acting Assistant Principal during the 2007-2008 season. Before coming to Atlanta, Mr. McBane served as Principal Violist of the Nashville Symphony and has also been a member of the San Diego Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, Toledo Symphony, and Springfield (IL) Symphony. Mr. McBane earned his bachelor's degree in viola performance from Bowling Green State University, where he also pursued a double major in music education (fully intending to be a school band & orchestra director). A career in performance beckoned, though, and he completed his M.M. in viola performance at The Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with nationally renowned teacher Robert Vernon, Principal Violist of The Cleveland Orchestra. His musical interests have always been broad: he enjoyed playing lead trombone and violin in jazz ensembles through college and has won awards at the Great Lakes Scottish Fiddling Championships. He has toured with Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith, and can be heard on albums by artists as diverse as Yo-Yo Ma, Mark O'Connor, and Bruce Springsteen.Mr. McBane is active in chamber music and student coaching around Atlanta. He and his wife Cheryl reside in Lilburn, where they homeschool their four children. They are members of Redeemer Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Tucker. He joins our excellent current staff of Directors, including Mr. George Uterhardt, who directs our Beginner and Intermediate Concert Bands, Ms. Amy Wilson, who directs our Recorder Ensembles and Chorus, and Mr. Todd Menefee, who directs the GA Force Marching Band.George Uterhardt studied Music Education at the University of South Florida, then spent a 26-year career as a Navy Musician, where he studied conducting, completed the Berklee arranging course, played in various types of groups including Dixieland, brass quintet, concert band, big band, jazz combo and rock band. George has played and conducted for high ranking officials of the military services as well as dignitaries of foreign countries. He has made concert tours in the U.S. and abroad. Since he was called to Christ in 1968, George has been involved in church music (including ship's choir and Navy Chapel choir) everywhere he has lived. He has for many years been the choir director at Redeemer Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Tucker. George is an active member of several local professional music groups such as the Gwinnett Symphony Orchestra and the Atlanta Jazz Krewe (dixieland jazz), in both of which he plays the tuba, and several big band ensembles in which he plays string bass. Ms. Amy Wilson, known as "Miss Amy" to her students, holds a Bachelor of Music degree from West Georgia State University and a Master of Music Education degree from Columbus State University. She served as principal flutist in the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra in 1980-81 and has played keyboards, flute and sax with several jazz, rock and blues bands. She has worked with such artists as "Big Bossman", Little Jimmy Reed, and Big Bill Morganfield, (son of blues legend Muddy Waters), with whom she appeared on the television program "Good Day Atlanta". She also sings and performs frequently as a piano/vocal soloist at weddings, receptions, parties and other events. Amy taught elementary school music, and middle/high school chorus and band from 1987-1991. From 1991 to the present she has been teaching privately full-time. Todd Menefee has 15 years experience playing in Band and Marching Band, including one year with the Penn State Blue Band. A former Drum Major, Todd has played in the Pennsylvania Regional Band as well as the Pennsylvania Dauphin County Band. More recently, Todd has been involved as an Assistant Director for 2 years with Vertical Sound Home School Band.
